Girls Cross Country Advance to Southern Section D5 Championship

On Saturday, November 11, the Pacifica Christian Girls Cross Country Team clinched a spot in the CIF Southern Section Championship after finishing third overall in the Preliminary race. The squad raced at Mt.Sac on Saturday morning in a field of 15 teams and 110 runners. To advance out of the Preliminaries, the Orange and Navy had to finish in the top five out of 15 to secure a spot in the championship race.

The Orange and Navy were led by Senior standout runner Ella Murray. Murray has been a dominant force for the Tritons this season, setting the new school record for the three-mile time and being the consistent front-runner for the squad this season. Ella took first place in the heat this afternoon with a time of 19.02, beating the second-place runner behind her by six seconds. Junior Ashley Gundlach finished in 11th place overall with a time of 21:28.7 while Akyli Maze was right behind her, posting a time of 21:52.9. Katie Fischer finished fourth for the Tritons with a time of 23.14.2 while freshman Lila Glidewell crossed the line at 23.33.9. Rounding things out for the Orange and Navy were freshmen Rachel Ham and Azaio Maze who crossed the line together with a time of 24.12.2. 

This race marks the first time that Tritons have advanced to the CIF Championship. The squad will race next Saturday, November 18, at Mt. Sac starting at 8:25 am.
