Girls Volleyball Reverse Sweep Against Immaculate Heart in Season Opener

Pacifica Christian Girls Volleyball kicked off their season with a reverse sweep against Immaculate Heart from Los Angeles earlier this evening. After dropping the first two sets, 17-25 and 12-25, the squad bounced back, defeating the Pandas 3-2. First-year Head Coach Ron Cheser made some key changes that started the comeback for the Orange and Navy, who are currently on the CIF-SS Division 5 pre-season watch list.

Heading into the third set Junior Chara Wondercheck was strategically moved from middle blocker to outside and immediately made an impact. Going on the offensive, Wondercheck led the Tritons to a 6-1 run, forcing Immaculate Heart to take a time-out. Consistent serving by Junior Kaelin Rieke and great team passing would lead the team on their comeback, taking the third set 25-21 and the fourth set 25-15 tieing it up 2-2. The fifth set was led by Junior Charlotte Carlson who anchored the serve receive passing to make it possible for the hitters to put down the ball. The Orange and Navy would ultimately win the fifth set 15-8 to clinch their first win of the 2023 season.

"It was a great test for the girls this early in the season," said Assistant Coach Amanda Ammann. "To get into a five-set situation, coming back from being down 0-2, and to secure the win. Great learning lesson for our young squad." Chara Wondercheck led the squad with 14 kills while sophomore Emma Hartman added 12 kills. Charlotte Carlson had 15 digs.

The Tritons start the year 1-0 and will host Calvary Chapel Santa Ana in their home opener this coming Wednesday in the Triton Event Center at 5:30 pm.
