Wondercheck Secures First Place in 100M Hurdles
Junior Charis Wondercheck took home first place in the 100M hurdles at the Orange County Track and Field Championships. Wondercheck has already tallied an impressive season so far and proved it Saturday morning with the first-place finish in
the elite invitational.
Hosted by Mission Viejo High School this year, the OC Track and Field Championships is a high talent competition with over 60 schools represented. The meet is by invitation only and even then, only athletes with qualifying times from the invited schools may participate. Wondercheck was favored to take home the gold in the 100M hurdles after her solid showing on Tuesday at Pacifica Christian's league cluster. The junior clocked in at 15.73 seconds, just beating a Senior hurdler from Villa Park, in the fastest heat of the day. This is the first time in Pacifica Christian history that a Triton has won first place at this invitational. Wondercheck also secured a fourth-place overall finish in the 300M hurdles with a time of 48.36 seconds.
"I am glad my coaches were there to support me and there to guide me through the race. Feedback is big part of racing and I really think that played a huge part in me taking first place in that heat," remarks Wondercheck.
Charis Wondercheck currently sits just outside the top 25 rankings in California for the 100M hurdles. She is expected to break into the top 25 this season.
