Pacifica Christian Girls Soccer Remains Unbeaten After 2–2 Draw with Crosstown Rival Corona Del Mar

The undefeated Pacifica Christian Girls Soccer program (6–0–1) battled to a hard-fought 2–2 draw Tuesday afternoon against crosstown rival Corona del Mar High School, delivering their most complete performance of the season in a matchup that lived up to its billing.

The Tritons entered the contest riding the momentum of a dominant weekend in San Diego, where they went 3–0, including a marquee 4–2 victory over CIFSD Division 3 powerhouse The Bishop's School. But as Head Coach Brandon Gonzalez noted, nothing to date compared to the test CDM would present. "Starting off 6–0–1 is fantastic. I'm so proud of the girls. We've been working so hard in the preseason, on and off the pitch, we were ready for the challenge" said Coach Gonzalez.

Pacifica had outscored opponents 45–3 through its first six matches, but CDM, coming off a 15 win season and a 2024/2025 CIFSS Division 1 Round of 16 appearance, showed quickly they would be a different challenge. The match kicked off promptly at 3:00 p.m. and immediately became a battle for midfield control. CDM gained the early edge and capitalized on a late first-half handball inside the box, converting the penalty to take a 1–0 halftime lead.

After halftime adjustments from Coach Gonzalez, Pacifica Christian stormed back with renewed intensity. The Tritons' high press, led by team leading goal-scorer Caroline Morehouse, forced a set-piece opportunity that resulted in freshman Grace Murray cleaning up a scramble in the box to equalize at 1–1.

Defensively, the Tritons delivered one of their strongest performances of the season. Center back Hadley O'Neil made a game-saving one-on-one stop that prevented CDM from retaking the lead. "Great defense by Hadley… she had the best game I've seen her play," said Coach Gonzalez

In the 69th minute, Biola-bound senior Emalee Hernandez unleashed a spectacular strike from outside the box, her second straight match with a long-range "banger", putting Pacifica ahead 2–1. The goal was again created through relentless pressure from Morehouse, whose individual effort forced the turnover that led to the opportunity.

Pacifica nearly secured the signature win, but a late defensive error with three minutes remaining allowed CDM to equalize, ending the match in a 2–2 draw. Despite the disappointment of conceding late, the Tritons preserved their unbeaten record and showed they can compete at the highest levels of CIF play.
