Cross Country 2023-2024 Season Outlook
The Cross Country teams make their return this season under the continual solid leadership of Head Coach Josh Espinoza. Josh enters his sixth year as Head Coach of both programs as he is joined by assistant coaches Neil Massaro and Madison Parr. Last year on the boy's side, the Tritons were ranked in Division 5 for the first time in program history.
Regarding the girl's team, Espinoza remarks, "I'm most excited to see how we lineup against the other league teams knowing that our girl's roster has tripled in size from last season. With that kind of an increase and all of our varsity team returning, I'm looking forward to being competitive clear into the postseason this year!" Players to watch this season for the girl's squad are junior Ashley Gundlach, our returning team captain, as she has had a huge summer training block this year. Also, look out for a new senior transfer, Ella Murray, a reigning Orange County cross country champion! We can expect a lot of great things from these two working together this season.
For the boys squad, Espinoza said, "we have five out of seven varsity boys returning this season and we are looking to remain one of the top teams in the league, with sights on making another CIF showing!" Keep an eye out for senior Peter Cao, a returning senior, coming off a huge summer training block, we can count on some stellar performances this season from him.
The Tritons will host their own invitational this season on October 3rd at El Moro Canyon for both the boy's and girls teams. There are four seniors, three boys and one girl on the squad this season.
