Boys Volleyball Takes Second at Oxford Academy Tournament
Boys Volleyball had a very long yet successful day on Saturday as they competed in the Oxford Academy Tournament, playing six games and winning all but one. Under first year Head Coach Cory Swartzbaugh, the Tritons won their bracket, then made it all the way to the finals, falling to Sage Hill. The Orange and Navy finished the day with a 6-1 record and improved their overall record to 6-7 on the season. Senior outside Hudson Reynolds was awarded tournament MVP.
The Tritons had a clean sweep in their bracket, winning all three games 2-0, not dropping a single set. The team faced off against Loara, Salesian, and Segerstrom, not allowing any of their opponents to get within reach of winning. The Orange and Navy then took on Mayfair, picking up their fourth win, to then face off against Gahr. This would be the only game to go to three sets all day and after dropping the second set, the squad bounded back, winning the third 15-11. The Orange and Navy lost the final game 0-2 against a tough Sage Hill team 22-25 and 21-25.
Seniors Hudson Reynolds and Reed Cleary led the Tritons' offense and will continue to dominate up on the net, consistently putting the ball away. Freshman libero Jedidah Darrow was steady on defense, providing solid passes and creating stability for the offense to run through.
The Orange and Navy are back in action this week with two tough nonleague matchups on the road. They will travel to Dana Hills on Tuesday and then to Trinity League Santa Margarita on Thursday. Their next home contest is not until March 28th in a league rivalry against Fairmont Prep.
