Boys Soccer Wins First League Title in Program History
History was made on Tuesday, February 4th, as the Pacifica Christian Boys Soccer Team claimed their first league title in program history. The Tritons defeated Magnolia Science Academy 3-1 to clinch first place in the Academy League with a record of 7-1-2, and 10-6-3 overall. The Orange and Navy finished the season strong, winning the last four of their games, and only dropped one league matchup on the road at TVT.
The Tritons went 5-11-3 under Head Coach Johnny Marmelstein's first season two years ago but reached the playoffs for the first time since their 2019 postseason debut. Then, last year, the program's first winning record was 14-9-1, earning them back-to-back Wildcard round appearances in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 seasons but never advancing. The program advanced as far as the second round in CIF back in the 2018-2019 season.
After going down early in the first few minutes of the game, the Orange and Navy came back from behind with goals from Abraham Abassi and Dylan Streiff as well as an own goal late in the second half by the Pirates. It was Streiff who created the penalty kick as Senior Abraham Abassi buried the PK, tying the game up at one apiece. The Tritons did not take their foot off the gas, putting another goal in the back of the net in the 34th minute as Dylan Streiff scored off a free kick taken by Reed Cleary. Heading into the second half, the team knew they only had 40 minutes remaining before history was to be made. The Orange and Navy remained focused on their goal, finishing the game with a dominant 3-1 victory over the visiting Pirates.
The team also recognized the four seniors on the squad: Abraham Abassi, Reed Cleary, Owen MacPherson, and Devin Wang on Tuesday Night.
Brackets for CIF will be released on Saturday, February 8th at 10:00 am and can be found here. The Tritons are predicted to land in Division 7 or the new Division 8 and are likely to host the first round.
