Pacifica Christian Boys Basketball Rises to #6 in Orange County After Dominant Showing at Meet in the Middle Classic
Pacifica Christian Orange County Boys Basketball has surged to #6 in the Orange County rankings, marking the highest placement this season. This new placing has the Tritons ahead of several of the region's most established basketball powers, including Mater Dei, Orange Lutheran, Los Alamitos, and Canyon High School to name a few.
The rise comes on the heels of an undefeated 3–0 performance at the Meet in the Middle Classic, a premier new tournament hosted by Bakersfield Christian. The Tritons defeated Weston Ranch, Vanden, and Destiny Christian to improve to 6–2 overall, validating their position among the county's elite programs. The event, in its first year, delivered a defining moment for the Tritons as they secured wins over multiple state-recognized opponents, further strengthening their growing statewide profile.
Pacifica's weekend began with an impressive win over Vanden High School, a team that won more than 20 games last season and reached the CIF San Joaquin Section Division I Quarterfinals and entering the matchup undefeated at 5–0
Senior Donovan Hogan, newly committed to Ottawa University (AZ), filled the stat sheet with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 3 assists. Senior Michael Noel powered the offense with 17 points, helping the Tritons secure a convincing 67–53 victory.
The next day, the Tritons followed with a strong team effort in a 77–66 win over Weston Ranch, setting up a high-level matchup to close the showcase. The Tritons were led by Joaquin Rigdon who had 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists while multiple other players contributed.
The final day brought Pacifica Christian's most formidable challenge: Destiny Christian Academy, a Top-50 team in California in 2024/2025 (According to MaxPreps) and the reigning CIF San Joaquin Section Division 2 Champion. Destiny Christian also entered the contest unbeaten after already defeating San Gabriel Academy, the defending CIF State Division 3 champions in their season opener. In 2024–25, Destiny Christian advanced to the CIF State Semifinals, falling only to eventual state champion Jesuit (Carmichael, CA).
Pacifica Christian once again, rose to the moment. Senior guard Joaquin Rigdon delivered a spectacular performance with 29 points, controlling the game from start to finish.
Senior Austin Brinker added 16 points, while Hogan once again rounded out the top trio with 11 points and 8 rebounds.
The Tritons' discipline, balance, and late-game poise secured a marquee victory and completed a flawless weekend.
Pacifica Christian now turns its attention to a challenging road trip in the Pacific Northwest, where they will face some of the top small-school programs in the Seattle region. The trip begins Wednesday, December 10th at 7:00 PM, when the Tritons take on King High School of Seattle.
