Pacifica Christian Names Josh Sayles Head Coach of Girls Flag Football Program
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Pacifica Christian High School is excited to announce Josh Sayles as the new Head Coach of the Girls Flag Football Program.
Sayles brings a strong combination of playing experience, coaching experience, youth leadership, and spiritual mentorship to Pacifica Christian. A former Division I football player at Northern Arizona University, Sayles competed at a high level from 2004–2008 and was selected to the NAU Football Leadership Council, where he served as a peer leader and representative for the program. His background as a college athlete gives him a deep understanding of team culture, offensive and defensive systems, competitive preparation, and what it takes to build a program with purpose and excellence.
In addition to his playing career, Sayles has spent the past three years coaching girls flag football in Orange County, leading teams across nine seasons. During that time, he has worked with first-time players learning the game from the ground up, while also helping returning players continue to develop their skill, confidence, and understanding of the sport. His experience planning practices, adjusting to the strengths of each roster, communicating with parents, and managing game-day logistics will be a tremendous asset to the Tritons.
Beyond the field, Sayles currently serves as a Pastor and Director of Village Kids at Village Church Irvine, where he leads children's programming, trains adult volunteers, teaches weekly curriculum, and works closely with families. His calling in ministry has given him a unique ability to connect with young people, mentor students, and lead with patience, encouragement, and a Christ-centered approach.
"We are thrilled to welcome Josh Sayles as the next leader of our Girls Flag Football Program," said Brandon Gonzalez, Director of Athletics & Student Life. "Josh brings a rare combination of football knowledge, leadership, humility, and genuine care for students. He understands how to teach the game, but more importantly, he understands how to mentor young women, build confidence, and lead in a way that reflects the mission of Pacifica Christian."
Sayles also has a personal connection to the Pacifica Christian community, as his daughter will be joining the school as a freshman next year. That family connection only strengthens his excitement to invest in the program and help shape the future of girls flag football at Pacifica.
As girls flag football continues to grow across Southern California, Pacifica Christian is excited for the next chapter of the program under Sayles' leadership. His experience as a player, coach, pastor, mentor, and father makes him uniquely equipped to lead the Tritons with excellence, purpose, and care.
