Pacifica Christian Rallies Past University on Rainy Opening Day

Opening day brought dramatic weather and an even more dramatic comeback as the Pacifica Christian Tritons stormed back to defeat University 7–5 on Monday at Orange Coast College. What began as a rain-soaked first inning turned into a clear-sky victory by the third, setting the stage for a gritty early-season win.

University wasted no time taking control, jumping out to a 3–0 lead in the top of the first inning after a two-run single and a bases-loaded walk. The visiting Trojans added another run in the third when the right fielder drew a walk to extend the advantage to 4–0, putting Pacifica Christian in an early hole.

Despite trailing by as many as four runs, the Tritons refused to fold. Their breakthrough came in the bottom of the fifth inning when the lineup came alive. Johnny Coopman singled to bring home a run, Rowen Gale followed with a clutch triple that drove in two, and a wild pitch plated another to cap a four-run surge that flipped the score to 7–4.

On the mound, Josiah Miller delivered a steady relief performance, tossing three and one-third innings while allowing just one run on three hits, striking out two and walking two. Coopman started the game, striking out five across two and two-thirds innings. University's starter surrendered seven runs (six earned) on seven hits over four and one-third innings.

Offensively, Gale anchored the middle of the order with three RBIs and a 2-for-3 day, while Scout Escebedo also collected two hits. Pacifica Christian added a defensive highlight as well, turning a key double play to halt a University rally.

Due to weather, the Tritons will not play on Thursday against Laguna Beach. Their next contest will be on Tuesday February 24th as they host Oceanview at OCC. First pitch will be at 3:15pm.
