Tritons shutout Lancers in crucial league win

Blake Hayes collected four hits in four at-bats for the Tritons as they defeated the visiting Western Christian Lancers 6-0 in a must-win league game for the Tritons. The Orange and Navy improved their record to 10-7 and 5-2 in the San Joaquin League.

Hayes singled in the first, third, fourth, and sixth innings, and had two stolen bases. It was Luke Miller who got the Tritons on the board in the bottom of the third as he singled with the bases loaded on a ground ball to right field, scoring Hayes and Escobedo. Coopman scored from third base three pitches later on a wild pitch making it 3-0 through three innings. The Orange and Navy added some insurance runs including a triple from John Peterson in the top of the fifth inning scoring Coopman from second base.

The Tritons scored two more in the bottom of the sixth as Johnny Coopman had a sac fly, scoring Blake from third and Jon Stone scored on a wild pitch a few batters later.

Jon Stone got the start on the mound this afternoon as he threw five innings, facing 18 batters, striking out eight, walking two, and only allowing one hit and no earned runs. Josiah Miller came in to close out the last two innings, facing 10 batters allowing just two hits and striking out two.

This was a crucial win for the Tritons as they now move up to solo second in the San Joaquin League behind CVCS. The Tritons will take a break from league competition and will not face another league opponent till Tuesday April 29th at CVCS at 3:30pm.

Their next game will be on the road this Thursday against Calvary Chapel at 4:00pm. The game will be at OC Great Park Field #8.
