Outstanding day at the plate for the Tritons, scoring 20 against Calvary Chapel
The bats were hot for the Tritons Saturday afternoon as they beat the visiting Calvary Chapel Eagles 20-7, picking up their second win of the year, their first win at home. The Orange and Navy combined for 12 hits, with many players having multi-hit games.
The team got an early lead scoring two runs in the first and three in the second. The game stayed relatively steady as the Tritons were up 6-1 heading to the bottom of the fifth, but then scored five earned runs increasing the lead to 11-1. After the Eagles cut the lead down to seven, the Tritons got hot at the plate again in the bottom of the sixth, scoring nine runs, outscoring the Eagles by 13.
Johnny Coopman had a day at the plate, recording five RBI's including a triple and two doubles. Coopman also started on the mound, pitching two innings, striking out two and only allowing one run. Scout Escobedo had a triple and two RBI's and John Peterson also had two RBI's and a stolen base. Lead off hitter Blake Hayes got on base every at bat, crossing the plate six times. Hayes walked four times and hit a double and a single as well as two stolen bases. Jude Dravecky had an RBI, two hits and two stolen bases while Rowen Gale had an RBI and a stolen base.
Luke Miller came in relief for Coopman in the third inning, facing 13 batters, striking out two and only allowing two hits and no earned runs. Freshman Carter Canada came in the bottom of the sixth and closed out the game facing seven batters, striking out four.
The Tritons have their league opener Wednesday afternoon as they host Webb at 3:00 pm at OCC.
