Coopman Makes School History with First Over-the-Fence Homerun
In an exciting baseball showdown between Pacifica Christian High School Newport Beach and Pacifica Christian Santa Monica, Newport Beach emerged victorious in a non-league game marked by standout performances and thrilling moments.
Leading the charge was Johnny Coopman, whose stellar performance at the plate propelled Newport Beach to victory. Coopman went an impressive 2 for 2, drawing a crucial walk, hitting a single, and making history with the program's first over-the-fence homerun. The ball soared over the right-center wall, igniting cheers from the crowd and securing four RBIs for Coopman. His contributions to the Orange and Navy didn't stop there, as he also crossed home plate twice, adding to the team's offensive strengths.
Backing up Coopman was Luke Miller, who not only excelled on the mound but also made significant contributions with his bat. Miller pitched three solid innings, allowing only two hits and no earned runs while striking out an impressive eight batters. The Tritons have secured the coveted #1 ranking in our division as we head into the postseason with an overall record of 18-6 and 13-1 in the league. Pacifica is the potential host for the 1st round of playoffs on Thursday, May 2 or Friday, May 3. Brackets will be released this coming Monday, April 29 at 10:00 AM.
